How do you continue to care for your new fur coat long after its initial purchase? Tuesdays Fine Dry Cleaners has got you covered. Here are six tips and tricks on how to care for your fur coat throughout the year.
Tip 1: Shake it off
Always shake your coat after you wear it. This gets rid of excess water, snow, dirt or residue.
Tip 2: Let it breathe
Think of your fur coat as a living thing and let it breathe. Hang it in a well-ventilated room. The last thing you want is a smelly fur coat.
Tip 3: Never use direct heat
Similar to the hair on your head, fur doesn't like excess heat. Avoid using hair dryers, clothes dryers or blow dryers on the fur. Trust us and thank us later.
Tip 4: Comb or brush it
You can either comb the fur with tools or your hands. Combs will separate the strands but will tear the fabric. Your hand will smooth the fur but will not get rid of any matted clumps.
Tip 5: Know when to ask for help
If your coat gets soaked, take it to your local dry cleaners. Don't try to save it yourself. It might shrink and never return to its normal size again.
Tip 6: Store your fur coat properly
Never store your coat in a plastic bag. The plastic will make your coat smell. More importantly, the fumes from the plastic will harm your coat. Instead, store your leather in a muslin bag or a good quality cloth bag.
These are the six rules of proper coat care. Follow them and they will never disappoint you. For more tips like this, subscribe to our newsletter.
